Client Feature: Aboitiz Energy Education Center – How Different Substrates Served Different Purposes
Aboitiz Energy Education Center is a public facility where people can learn about electric power generation with the aid of modules and other visual collateral. The education center has a similar role to a museum that aims to inform people about something important in the lives of humanity. The center is equipped with modules, interactive systems, signages and descriptive labels which we, the Big Black Panda Co. helped fabricate through our Quality Printing Service in Davao.
One challenge that we faced on producing the displays was our careful decision of selecting the right materials, substrates, and design to use to fully maximize the potential and purpose of a display. Here are some applications of our environmental graphic design on the Aboitiz Energy Education Center that we have thought of deeply.
Sticker on Sintra with Frame
The education center required a high-resolution picture and display for indoor use. The best solution we offer for this is a sticker printed on a Sintra board that has proven to be very durable and lightweight. Gloss lamination is also an option for Sticker Print on Sintra Board. With this type of substrate, we were able to completely achieve visual storytelling through crips and vivid printing quality which the client was looking for.
Sticker on Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP)
This is a common option when you’re looking to have outdoor signage at the structure’s main entrance which will immediately grab attention from onlookers and visitors. Heat from the sun or a regular interior atmosphere will not affect your signage, as an ACP material is chemical resistant. UV printing is very durable as well and environmentally friendly with almost a zero carbon footprint.
The unique attribute that we applied on this installation of cut out acrylic letters mounted on the main ACP board that adheres to the client’s strict brand guidelines. Which now leads us to the third substrate: acrylic.
Sticker On Acrylic
The choice of a vinyl clear sticker on a clear acrylic was the first choice for the Mission - Vision board of the Energy Education Center. However, acrylic is not very easy to recycle. A wish to change the look of one thing to another will not be that easy and very costly. To resolve that we rather have stickers on acrylic rather than printing of the acrylic glass itself.
The stickers do not limit the capability of the possible creativity of printing on acrylic. It rather creates more opportunities for artistry. A sticker on acrylic would look like a big picture laminated on a really thick sheet hung on the wall.
The locator board made with a reverse sticker on acrylic with lighting is a type of signature that not all signage makers in Davao could create. The application of lights in a design and picking between a substrate of a backlit film or a fold coat substrate is confusing to pick without the application of an environmental graphics design.
Interactive Systems
Interactive system designs vary in a lot of ways from a never-ending process since there is no one way for people to learn and technology changes all the time. Davao printing and advertising services welcome this new type of display or signage mostly to museums. Since the education center is like a museum, interactive display systems are used.
An example of this is the interactive model displays of the Aboitiz power plant. Instead of learning about how power plants work through pictures and texts. We allow people to learn it through all learning styles possible. We seek to hit visual learnings, auditory learning and kinesthetic learners that learn through hands-on participation.
For every project, Big Black Panda continues to prove that not one design fits any similar situation. Our signage makers consider a wholesome design with collaboration of our in-house architects and graphic designers. Call us now!
